ADB amends loan agreement to Sri Lanka for building South Port

The Asian Development Bank has agreed to amend the conditions of its loan to the Sri Lankan government for building a new deep-water harbor near the Colombo port known as the South port. According to the ADB Country Director Richard Vokes, on the request of the Sri Lankan government, ADB agreed to give the loan first for the continuation of the harbor infrastructure construction work.

Because of the high price of fertilizers sold in government agencies, Nepalese traders are smuggling fertilizers from India and selling at a lower price. Nepal does not have any fertilizer industry. It purchases all its fertilizers from India. This year, Nepal’s Agriculture Inputs Company (AIC) bought 10,000 tons of fertilizers but it could not sell more than 7000 tons because of high price rate.
