Today, while I was browsing through the website of World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), I was delighted to see that Asian countries are doing well in this business. In the list of top ten achievers in tourism, 5 of them are from Asia (China, India, Vietnam, Maldives and Cambodia).
India is a traditional powerhouse in tourism with its historical and natural attractions. When I visited in 2004, I was simply amazed to see that in the streets of Kolkata ( Maldives is promoting tourism very aggressively in the last few years and it has already paid off. Attractive advertisements in cable TV channels coupled with a very informative website have made many tourists from around the world interested to visit the country. The future is nothing but bright for Maldives.
What about the other South Asian countries? and have too many attractions but are plagued with internal conflict- so is . remained an isolated country for ages and now is gradually opening up. is slowly but steadily moving forward. Violence is not helping 's tourism sector at all.
Which South Asian country do you like to visit and why?
