Bhutan is still one of isolated countries in the world. While, the rest of the world is pushing aggressively towards free market reforms and attracting to tourists, the country has tried to maintain a distance with the rest of the world. However, that does not mean that is not trying to improve its economy. According to the report of ADB, Bhutan's economy grew at a rate of 8.8% in 2005. If you think that this rate is impressive then what you will say to know that the prediction of ADB for the year 2006 is 10%. This is even better than the growth rate of China. Well, it seems that the economy of Bhutan has still room for growth and according to ADB the growth rate of Bhutanese GDP for the year 2007 will become 12%.
ADB has appreciated the sound economic policy taken by the government of for its good use of hydropower resources. And the completion of The Tala hydroelectric project will result in doubling the export income for the country from hydropower. However, everything is not so rosy for the country as Bhutan still remains as one of the poorest countries in the world with a poverty rate of 32%. Generating implement is becoming the biggest challenge for the government.
To me, Bhutan's economic growth is very impressive. What about you?
