For the last one week, I wrote a number of entries about Nepalese economy and each time the sense was totally pessimistic. Today, I am very happy to be able to write with a sense of optimism. The Maoist rebels have declared a 3 months ceasefire and that has given many people a sense of optimism that may be things are going to change at last. The rebellion has been continuing for one decade and it has cost more than 13,000 lives. The worst impact it had was in the Nepalese economy. The Maoist rebels control many parts of rural Nepal and their conflict with the government forces have hampered production a lot for the rural areas for one decade. Now, new Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala can relax a bit and focus on bringing the Nepalese economy to normal level.
The immediate priority for the new Prime Minister is to bring back the Nepalese economy in the normal track. His government has to help the stock exchange to perform normally. Girija Prasad Koirala will also have to try his best to convince the donors to provide fund generously. Nepal has got a second chance now. I just wish that the politicians remain untied and use it for the people.
