Bhutan: DrukNet doubling its bandwidth
DrukNet is the leading ISP in Bhutan. I must admit that I do not know much about the Information and Communication Technology sector of Bhutan. So, for writing this post, I searched for a long time in Internet and then I realized why I do not know about Bhutan's IT sector at all- there is very little information about it in Internet. Another important website is the website of Bhutan Telecom. I browsed both of the websites for a long time and felt disheartened not to find a lot of information. Many links there are blank (without any information).
However, I felt satisfied to see that Bhutan government is allowing its people to call overseas cheaply through VOIP. I found out from the website of Digital Media Asia that DrukNet is planning to double its bandwidth capacity for Internet. Currently DrukNet has capacity of 10 MBPS. The reason behind the increase of bandwidth is growing demand of Internet use in the country. Many Bhutanese people are interested about Internet and browse Internet. That is why the demand for bandwidth is growing all the time.
I think it is a good sign and shows that the Bhutanese people are trying to catch up with rest of the world. What is your idea?

I live in the US & have friends in Bhutan. when I do receive an email from them or phone call, they complain of the poor internet service, a government monopoly with the typical government ineffeciency of providing service while charging a too high service fee.
Seems they need to send competent people to S.Korea to learn how to provide broadband good sevice to Bhutan too, I think Bhutan must have the poorest internet service in the world.
it is time to emerge from the past, the future is here !

i am tandin wangdi and i just broswed through this web, i have opened call center in bhutan and it started going live also.It was my dream ever since i worked in call center. As i rem i am one of those first Bhutanese who worked in a call center in india and thought of opening one since last 6 years and i feel my dream are now showing it way.
