The demand for bandwidth is always on the rise and now we have news that Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (VSNL) is planning an India-Europe undersea cable project which will directly link India and Europe. The distance is nearly 10,000 Kilometer and the investment of the project will be $300 million. This is a huge investment and VSNL is discussing sharing the project with several Middle Eastern and European telecom companies. On the Indian side the cable will start from Mumbai and then it will touch go along Middle East and then after Egypt will go towards Europe.
This broadband link will help Indian companies to meet the growing demand of bandwidth. These days, many European companies are outsourcing their jobs to India and this trend is on the rise. So, within in the next few years, demand for bandwidth with Europe will increase substantially. This project of VSNL will not suffer financial loss. Rather, it is perhaps a very wise move. A lot is said about the growing energy demand for the Indian economy but we should keep in mind the growing demand of bandwidth of Indian companies.
