You may wonder, United Arab Emirates (UAE) is in the Middle East not in South Asia. So, why I am writing about it! Well, for two reasons. First South Asian countries like India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are among the major producers and exporters of tea and secondly a significant portion of the people living in UAE is South Asian workers. So, when I saw the news in a blog that use of tea was increasing in UAE, I felt delighted and continued to read a detailed report in another website.
I came to know that sale of tea in GCC countries in 2005 was $281 million in 2005 and this will increase a lot in the next few years. Many Arab people are leaning towards tea as they believe that it is a healthy drink. On the other hand, UAE and GCC countries have a lot of workers from South Asia and Britain- both the places are famous for their addiction towards tea. Thus, tea business is flourishing in UAE and GCC countries. A good amount of tea consumed here are imported from South Asian countries like India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
If people in other regions of the world can associate tea with health then this industry will gain a lot in South Asia in future.
