Raju Narisetti, currently the editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe and deputy managing editor of The Wall Street Journal, is among the most famous Indian journalist in the world. Rumors were going on in the last few days that he would come to India to take the helm of a newspaper. While some thought that Raju Narisetti may start his own newspaper many people were (rightly) cocksure that he would come to be the editor of the Hindustan Times' long-rumored business daily. Now it is not a rumor anymore and Raju Narisetti is indeed going to take charge of the business daily to be published by Hindustan Times Media Limited.
Right now, there are 4 business dailies in India and a number of business magazines. It seems that there is room for more as the readership of Indian newspaper is growing at an annual rate of 12% (because of the increase in literacy rate). The continuous growth in Indian economy means that there is now good demand of economic news. With his experience in Wall Street Journal behind him, Raju Narisetti will surely be able to do something for business journalism in India. At least, I am hopeful about it. What about you?
I am also sure that this career move by Raju Narisetti will inspire many other Indian journalists working in Europe and North America to come back to India.
