![]() India and Uzbekistan have a long shared history. Before the break up of Soviet Union, India was the most trusted alley of Soviet Union in South Asia and Uzbekistan was a part of it. Those days, India used to receive massive aid from the Soviet Union. Well, now India is flourishing in the world economy while Uzbekistan is surviving. So, when Indian Prime Minister visited Uzbekistan he was treated with utmost importance by Uzbek government. 7 MoUs were signed between the countries. Of them, two MoUs were related to the cooperation in the energy sector between India and Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan will now allow Indian companies to invest in its energy fields.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will feel highly satisfied at this improvement. India badly needs to find new sources of energy and Uzbekistan is surely an attractive source. On the other hand, Uzbekistan is becoming isolated in the world stage for human rights related matters. Having a tough time in its relationship with the western countries, Uzbek government is now trying to improve relationship with the Asian countries. Naturally, Uzbek President Islam Karimov will be delighted to have the world's largest democracy as his friend. Thus it is a win-win situation for both the countries.
