Getting oil and gas for the growing Indian economy is becoming to be major challenge for India to sustain its economic growth. If India wants to grow then it has invest heavily in improving its infrastructure and specially generate more electricity. Thus, India is seeking new places from which it can get oil and gas easily. Of course, price is a factor but now getting energy on a regular basis is becoming a more important factor. Perhaps, India is now looking Uzbekistan as a possible source. Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh will visit Uzbekistan on April 25. Detailed information has not been yet published by the Indian government but I am sure that energy cooperation will be the most important thing.
Uzbekistan has a substantial reserve of gas and oil. In the international stage, Uzbekistan government is becoming isolated because of human rights condition in the country. Economically, the economy of Uzbekistan is not in a very good shape. So, friendship with India will help the country in the international stage.
I have just one question- how India will transport energy from Uzbekistan? I hope to find the answer after few weeks.
