![]() For the Indian economy, monsoon is more important than Information Technology and outsourcing. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted today that this year there will be less rainfall than average during the monsoon period (June-September). This is bad news for millions of Indian farmers who depend on monsoon rainfall for their cultivation. The only thing to bring any comfort for the Indians is the news that the situation won't reach to disaster level. B Lal, Director General of the Meteorological Department B Lal told reporters, ""This means the rainfall for the country as a whole is likely to be 93 per cent of the Long Period Average (LPA) with a model error of plus, minus five per cent." If it is really happens then most probably growth of Indian economy will not get hampered.
Unfortunately, many Indian farmers will not get any comfort from this prediction of the Indian Meteorological Department as a bad monsoon can bring disaster for them. We have already seen some Indian farmers losing everything and committing suicide from bird flu. Now, let us pray that more Indian farmers do not kill themselves for light monsoon this year. 20% of output in Indian economy is added y farming activities but it is the largest source of livelihood for Indian people in rural areas.
