![]() Air pollution is becoming a growing problem for India. Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has published a report about pollution in India and the worrying fact is that smaller cities are becoming more and more polluted gradually. Many people die each year as a result of pollution and many others suffer from different diseases. One interesting fact about India is that 17% of the total cars in the country run in the capital city Delhi. The urban poor living in the slums in the cities suffer most from the growing pollution.
The pollution poses a serious dilemma to Indian economy. On the hand, the economy is growing and the smaller cities want a share in the economic growth of the country. They are trying to expand their economic activities and attract more investment. On the other hand, the smaller cities do not have the logistic to fight against pollution.
Until now, India is not among the major contributors to world pollution but with its economic growth pollution will surely increase here too. Indian government should pay more attention to this problem and invest more on alternative energies.
