![]() A.T. Kearney's Global Retail Development Index 2006 has been published and if you to download it at free of charge just visit their website. The good news is that in this report I found Asian countries dominating. And according to A.T. Kearney, India is the most attractive country for International Retail Expansion. About India it is written in the report:
India's economic growth, forecasted at 8 percent GDP in 2006, continues to support the retail industry. The estimated $350 billion retail market is expected to grow 13 percent and the top five retailers account for less than 2 percent of the modern retail market.
The report also praised the decision of the Indian government to allow 'foreign companies to own up 51 percent of a single-brand retail company, such as Nike or FCUK.' So, further liberalization of the economy means that more western companies will come to the Indian retail market. In the list Russian and Vietnam was in the second and third position respectively while China slipped to the fifth position. India was in the top position last year too.
Indian decision makers would surely get delighted to get endorsement from A.T. Kearney and would feel more encouraged to open up the Indian market further.
