![]() Nepal is a mountainous and landlocked country. According to report published in The Rising Nepal, " 1,022,000 passengers have travelled by domestic air service and 127,000 passengers by international flight to and from the Tribhuvan Airport in the 11 months of 2005." Believe me considering the fact that Nepal is a very poor country, 1 million passengers in the domestic air services is a great figure. From Wiki's entry on Nepal, I found out that the country has 46 airports (In a report of People's Daily Online, the figure is 51)- the figure is much more than its larger neighbor Bangladesh.
The aviation sector is suffering a lot from the current political crisis. Because of violence, demonstration and general strike many passengers from other countries have cancelled their tickets and this way the airlines that are operating have very few inbound passengers. On the other hand, because of general strike passengers are increasing finding it difficult to go to the airport from their hotels. Thus the earning of the airlines is going down everyday.
If this condition continues for the next few weeks then the aviation sector of Nepal will be very badly hit and many jobs will be lost in this sector.
