The price of salt has gone too high Nepal due to political stalemate. I saw in a report of Reuters that price of salt went up 10 times in some parts of Katmandu. Manoj Acharya, a senior official from the Kathmandu-based National Salt Trading Corporation has told IRIN that there was no shortage of supply but people were buying excessively in panic. The price of vegetables has gone up too much too and fresh vegetables are becoming scarce. There may be debate about whether the salt crisis is real or not but there is no doubt that serious shortage of water is looming over Katmandu. Even now there is an acute shortage of life saving medicines because Nepal imports most of its medicines from India and other countries. Actually, Nepal imports 70% of its medicine.
I saw CNN that supplies salt, bananas, potatoes and onions, kerosene and gasoline of 23 trucks and buses could enter the capital Katmandu with the escort of armored military vehicles. This is indeed like a drop of rain in a desert.
The tragic part is that there is no sign of solution to the current political crisis. So, the common people of Katmandu can only expect more sufferings and pain.
