There is one reason behind high software piracy in South Asia. Firstly, American and European software are out of reach of the common people. 1000$ may not sound to be that much of a money in the west but for most South Asian people it is the income of 5-4 months. Realizing this factor, now Microsoft has come forward to introduce 'pay as you go' PC in which the consumers will have to pay on a pre paid basis like they pay for mobile phone. Microsoft is introducing it in emerging markets and that means that some of South Asian countries are going to have it very soon. Pre paid mobile phones are very popular in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. I am sure that 'pay as you go' PCs will become very popular in these countries too. This is a win-win situation for both the common people and Microsoft. For millions of people in the third world countries, Microsoft original software will come within reach while Microsoft will earn a huge amount of money and Bill Gates will become richer. I wish that other companies follow Microsoft's model too.

Yes, Bill Gates and the people of Southasia both will be benifitted through the Pay as you go service. It is really a remarkable project because people will find everything within their capacity and Microsoft will also be able to avoid piracya. This cna be a modle for other companies who are facing problem due to piracy and in htis way people will enjoy better software instead of pirated one.
