![]() India is becoming a very attractive market for automobile makers and since India is not a rich country, the demand is most for cheap cars. Right now, Maruti Udyog Ltd is dominating this segment of the market with its 800cc Alto and Maruti 800 that cost $4,500. Well, this price may sound to be very cheap for a consumer in Europe or North America but for majority of the Indian population it is still out of reach. Maruti has partnership with Japanese company Suzuki and with the support of Suzuki, it is doing very well in the Indian market. Tata Motors is now trying heart and soul to grab a share in the low end car market. Tata Motors has taken a very ambitious plan to introduce a car with the price of Rs 1 lakh (nearly $2,000) in the Indian market within the next few years.
If TATA Motors can really come up with a car for $2,000 then it will surely dominate the market not just in India but also in many countries of Asia. I am sure the other car companies who are present in the Indian market will surely try for similar cheap cars.
What is your idea about it? Will you be interested to buy a car for $2,000?

many people will buy it i think. But we must questioning the quality of the car. Some years ago, china motorcycle flooding into indonesia, and japanese cycle become hit by it.
But after two years, the japs get back in action, because the chinese motorcycle get broken quickly and bad after sales service.
It would be great if Tata could do the $2000 car. They've recently entered the car and telecoms markets in South Africa and if they manage the project, I'm sure SA users would benefit too.
As you know, Africa faces the same poverty challenges that India faces, and the public transport system sucks. The $2000 car would lower entry barrier for a lot of consumers.
This would really be very intereting if the project of launching a car of just $2000 of Tata come into light.
This is true that though the quality is a factor but in some cases people give more importance on price than quality. India is not a rich country rather poverty is still a commom phenomenon in many states in India. So I think this car will create a new trend in India. Furthermore, it will be more interesting to see the activities of other competitor comapanies like Maruti because they will have to do something for their own survival.
Its great that TATA is coming with such a cheapest car......but do we think that the quality of Car is good.I think that there is no option of safety in this Low budget car,I have gone thorugh few docs on the internet and found that they are not using good material in that car.Well it can e manged in this way only because the budget is itself too less and its a big challenge for them to come with this Dream come true.
Best of Luck for TATA and the Public as well.
tata truly deserves appreciation with this kind of Innovation and above the question is of SAFETY???????
Its great but only thing is that the safty in this low budget car, but I think Tata ia a very big name and he will manage it

cool !!!!it's abought time some one cares for the little guy. I am sure as far as safety, that car will be ok.... I ride a harley and I have not worn a helmet in over 38 years. So think abought the safety in that. I know in a way that is stupid, but I would rather be in one of there cars then on a bike if it went off the road. I also heard abought a car that runs on compress air, gets around 250 miles per tank full. in india, do'es anyone have any information on that ?
It would be MARVELLOUS if one of these companies could introduce a safe vehicle that meets European emission standards, is environmentally friendly, small and nippy and which would undercut all the other major manufacturers so that those of us in Europe who absolutely depend on our vehicles but can't really afford one, could buy a reliable vehicle at a very low price. The cheapest new cars here at present are just over £5000 so an import would have to be much less than this. Go for it!
Looks good for the middle class budget .. But the growing economy awaits a much bigger problem in the way of growing need for fuel. If any of the companies which rolls out the cheaper cars could find any source of cheaper alternative for fueling the cars (i.e.,cheaper car ) other than the petrol and the diesel would prove more easier for marketing them. Ofcourse, gas but how much secure it would be is again a big question !.Ofcourse it is just the beginning and more cars might roll out in the future......

Yes, cheap and fuel efficient car has become a craze not just in India but in other countries of the world. Even in USA cheap fuel efficient Japanese cars have become very popular. However, the funny thing is when we hear names like Ford, General Motor or Daimler Chrysler we think of very expensive cars but the reality is these companies produce cheap car parts in other countries(http://asianbiz.blogspot.com/2006/05/made-in-america-automobiles-myth.html).
