![]() In the Indian car market, Hyundai Motor is among the top key players. Indian market is getting more and more competitive as the car companies are pushing very aggressively to capture market share. Now Hyundai Motor is seriously contemplating the idea of introducing a small car with 1.2-litre diesel engine. In the budget for the current fiscal year, the Indian government has offered some excise duty cut for small cars and Hyundai bosses are optimistic that they can make the best use of it with its diesel powered car.
Hyundai has started to take the Indian market very seriously and most probably is going to set up a second engine and transmission plant in Chennai within a couple of years. This plant will need US$600 million of investment for the company. 800 employees will be hired for its R&D center in India. Hyundai is now thinking of making India as an important manufacturing and exporting hub in Asia.
All these are good for the Indian economy and I wish that the Indian government and its bureaucrats try to support Hyundai as far as possible.
