Huawei planning huge investment in India
Huawei Technologies is the Chinese giant  telecom equipment vendor and in fact the company has presence in every continent of the world. In Asia Pacific, Huawei has branch offices in 13 countries and it has an R&D institute in Bangalore. Now, Huawei bosses are thinking of investing $100 million in India. $40 million will be spent for expanding the activities of this R&D institute in Bangalore and the rest $60 million will be used to set up a manufacturing facility in India. However, this investment can only take place after approval comes from the Indian government. I don't think Indian government would mind to have $100 million investment from a China based company as India is aggressively seeking investment in the manufacturing sector these days.

The R&D institute in Bangalore has now 1200 workers and by 2007 this number is expected to grow to 2000. If the setting up of manufacturing facility goes well then the number of mobile phones produced in India will significantly rise within a short time. I wonder why other leading mobile phone makers are waiting for. They should set up manufacturing plants in India now. It is now or never. After all, more than 33 million new GSM handsets are going to be sold this year in the Indian market.
