Hutchison Telecommunications International Limited (“Hutchison Telecom”, “The Group”; SEHK:2332 and NYSE:HTX) is a Hong Kong based company and today it announced its financial results for the first quarter of this year (that concluded on 31 March 2006). Hutch is doing very well these days and the main growth is coming from the Indian market. You can read the press release of the company from this link. About the Indian market, it is written in the press release:
" The customer base of our Indian operation increased rapidly to 15.4 million at the end of March 2006, the strongest net additions the operation has ever recorded and almost doubled last quarter’s net additions."
CEO of Hutch, Dennis Lui said, " The growth in the mobile market in India was reflected in our business with record quarterly growth. Through the rapid expansion of our network, commitment to innovative marketing offers and a well recognised brand, our Indian operation
has positioned itself as one of the leading mobile operators in the market.”
Hutch may have increased its user base in India but average revenue per user (ARPU) has fallen in India from Rs 511 (in the previous quarter) to Rs 454 for the company. This is something that Hutch bosses should work on. If you ask me then I would say that the best way to increase ARPU in Indian market is to provide more content. Contents related to cricket is something that can really help a lot.
