India surpassing USA as a mobile phone market?
In terms of user base, India is going to be the second largest market of mobile phone in the world by 2008. That means India will overtake both USA and Russia and will be just after China. Datacomm Research has just published a report in which it stated this information. Well, I tried to find the report and but found that it is only for sale and not available for me. So, I went through the news items published in different websites (listed below under 'Related Articles'.) From the website of Datacomm I am quoting here:
"The number of mobile phone subscribers added each month in India has more than tripled over the past year. India has passed Japan in total subscribers and is about to break through the 100 million subscriber barrier. This has been accomplished by rethinking handsets, network infrastructure, ARPU, and enhanced services and content."

Right now, nearly 5 million new mobile phone subscribers are added every month and in a month or two India will have more than 100 million mobile phone subscribers. In the Indian cheap mobile phone sets are very popular and the good thing is that thanks to immense competition about mobile phone service providing companies and deregulation carried out by the government, Indian mobile phone users can use their phone at a very cheap price. For example, millions of users only spend under $10 monthly and thus mobile phone is now spreading among the working class people. Now, Indian mobile phone users enjoy the best service in terms of pricing and content and I think the consumers can only get better service.

I am surely waiting to see that India can challenge China and even surpass China in mobile phone market.
