Kisaburo Tokai is an influential man in Japan. He is Director General International Bureau of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). To know a bit more about him, I visited the website of LDP and realized his importance. His picture, name and rank were in the webpage 'Japanese/English Profiles for Key LDP Officials'. I realized that Kisaburo Tokai was more important than many Ministers in Japan. Anyway, he is now leading a four-member Japanese MP delegation to India to see the recent condition of Indian economy.
Well, in the last 6 months many important world leaders including US President George Bush visited India with the same goal perhaps. Thus, the visit of the Japanese delegation is perhaps nothing new to the Indian government and the private sector. However, what is significant is that Kisaburo Tokai has called on India to be more serious in developing infrastructure. He said, "Infrastructure is still lacking (in India) and needs to be improved. The taxation system is also an issue, while the labour law reforms are long overdue."
Indian officials should take this matter very seriously. A few weeks ago, ADB president Haruhiko Kuroda expressed similar view too. Right now, India accounts for only 1% of Japan's overall global trade. Kisaburo Tokai feels that there is much room for growth provided that India invests more on its infrastructure development.
