![]() Mobissimo is one of the top search engines for travel. It has now launched its service in India with its new portal for India. San Francisco-based Mobissimo is going to make India its regional hub for Asia and Pacific. In the Mobissimo Blog (mobiblog) I found its press release about the launch of Indian operation and according it, "Mobissimo.in addresses the need on the India subcontinent for travel search as the Indian travel industry has been growing at a staggering rate of 62% a year." No wonder, the company is so eager to enter the Indian market.
Through the Mobiblog I could find an interview of CEO of Mobissimo, Beatrice Tarka in another website (eyefortravel.com). In the interview Beatrice Tarka said:
"The total online travel market size in India is projected to be US$368 million this year, with OTAs garnering 14 percent and supplier direct accounting for 86 percent of the share. Air ticket online penetration is estimated to be 15 percent. Next year, the total online market is expected to touch US$523 million, with OTA increasing their share to 24 percent and air ticket penetration touching 23 percent."
So, the Indian market is expected to grow quite fast and thus Mobissimo has entered into the right time here. You may wonder that India is not a rich country like Japan, Korea or even China. So, why Mobissimo selected India as its regional base in Asia Pacific? I think that growing travel industry in India is one of the factors. Another factor is that Mobissimo can hire Indian professionals with a cheaper salary. Finally, Indian consumers are likely to carry out searches in English language more than consumers in any other country in Asia. Finally, the travel market in India is just starting to take off with some low cost budget airlines and Mobissimo is the first travel search engine in India. So, all these factors will surely give Mobissimo an edge not just in the Indian market but in Asia as a whole.
What do you think?
I wish that Mobissimo ensures its presence in Bangladesh and Pakistan too- the two growing markets in South Asia apart from India.
