India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were under British rule for many years during the 18th, 19th and 20th century. So, the many of the leading people during the 20th century in these countries graduated from British Universities. In fact, even today, Cambridge and Oxford are considered to be the best universities by people in South Asia (few people in South Asia are familiar with MIT or Harvard). So, naturally, I got shocked to find that UK universities are not contemplating the idea of outsourcing administrative works and even research to India. A number of British banks and insurance have already outsourced their works to India and seen the benefit. The Council for Industry and Higher Education has recently published a report in which the idea of outsourcing to India by British universities. You can download the report from the website of this organization.
As a South Asian, my initial reaction was of shock as after my birth, I have been hearing all the time that British Universities are the best of the best. I am happy that Indian professors and students are gradually reaching the world level of excellence. So, may be 10 years, many British students will come to India for getting quality education as now students from South Asia go to UK. Well, 10 years may be too soon but 30 years may not be too early.
