There is no sign of rain in Pakistan and the suffering of the poor people is only increasing. People suffering from heatstroke and gastroenteritis cannot see any improvement in weather to get any comfort. In 2003, 230 persons died in Pakistan from the heat wave. The condition of this year can only make the people of breaking this record. In most of the provinces, 40 degree Celsius has become a part of every day life these days. The worst affected are the farmers since they may lose some part of their harvest. Frequent, power cuts have only made the situation more intolerable.
The only thing to get consolation is the fact that extreme heat is melting the snow in the mountain tops and as a result people living in the plain land areas can expect to have some better water supply. The Pakistani government is helpless as it can do nothing to control the weather. However, the government can take a scheme to support the poor farmers.
I have written about this matter a few days ago and most probably in the next few weeks, I will again have to write if the death toll rises sharply.
