![]() Yesterday, I gave you sad news regarding deaths of some people in India suffering from heat wave. Today, it seems to me that I am here writing even sadder news for Pakistan. This winter, rainfall has been 40% below average while snowfall was 20-25% less than normal. And now, Pakistan meteorological department has predicted that there will be no or very small amount of rainfall in the next two months. Thus, devastating draught may just become a matter of time for Pakistan. Sindh and Baluchistan are the two provinces that would get worst affected if the drought really attacks Pakistan in the next few weeks.
Production of agricultural products like wheat will be seriously affected as a result of the drought. The poor farmers will become the main victims from a drought. Well, they have to pay the price for every natural disaster in everywhere in South Asia, not just in Pakistan. The Pakistan government cannot prevent a drought but surely it can do something substantial about supporting the poor farmers during the drought period. I hope that the NGOs come forward too.
