Centre for Science & Environment (CSE) has warned that air pollution in India is becoming hazardous and something substantial should be done now so that things do not completely go out of control in near future. The use of CNG or 'ultra sulphur' diesel run vehicles has been advocated by CSE to avert any public health hazard nightmare. I hope that Indian decision makers can act before it is too late.
Neighboring Bangladesh has been very successful in adopting CNG and now in the streets of Bangladeshi capital city Dhaka; all (100%) the auto rickshaws (populary known as Baby Taxi) are run with CNG. Bangladesh has a huge reserve of natural gas and CNG is much cheaper than petrol.
In contrast, India does not have huge reserve of gas and most buses and trucks in India are very old and they emit poisonous materials. CSE has recently published a book titled '"The Leapfrog Factor: Clearing the air in Asian cities". You can read about the book more from the website of CSE.
I just wish that Indian decision makers act decisively without any delay to introduce greener and environment friendly fuel.
