![]() Yesterday, I wrote about the intense competition in India to produce cheap cars. At this moment, Maruti Udyog is dominating this market with its Maruti 800. TATA Motors is now trying to introduce a $2000 passenger car within a few years. TATA Motors is gradually finalizing its investment plans and setting up manufacturing facilities for its 1 Lakh Rupee car projects. West Bengal and Uttaranchal are seems to be preferred destinations although no final decision has come to the media yet.
However, there is some debate on whether it is really possible to produce and then sell a car with $2000. Osamu Suzuki, Chief of Suzuki is skeptic about. TATA bosses are in no mood to listen to the skeptics and until now they are upbeat about the prospect of the car. Even there is media report of plan of TATA to produce one million of this kind of cars annually.
I have just one concern about this car. Will it be safe enough? In South Asia, most families still cannot afford to pay $2000 for buying a car. So, obviously, they would not mind buying a car that may lack some standard facilities. If the car is safe then people will flock into buying it.

i have recently purchased Safari Dicor EX from Manipal Motors Bangalore. I am utterly dissapointed by their customer service.
For an investment of Rs 10 lacs the service i got was for 10 paise.
1) Front Grill BROKEN
2) Cheap Garware sun film installed which has come out of every glass(earlier promised by the GM of manipal he is going to install 3M Sun film.
3) Vehicle not polished
This is not what i expect from TATA which is such a big establishment. Why should we bear with such DEALER who is not CAPABLE to solve my problems inspite of repeated reminders and a mail on the MANIPAL CRM.
They do not even have the courtesy to call me after the mail is been put or repeated telephonic call made to replace the Front Grill and the sunfilm.
Why was the delivery made at the Godown and not at the showroom.
Why are all my calls and mails not being answered.
These problems that i have faced will never make me suggest anybody for any TATA product(Inspite of having 3 INDICAS 1 TATA MOBILE and 1 SAFARI in our family)
The Dealer Network which is Pathetic has to improve 10000000... folds

Tata's outstanding project, no doubt, will get much focus due to its cheapest rate.
I am agree with you that safety is a question that lies behind its success. But I think Tata will also think it and make some plan for ensuring its safety.
I also hope that the bosses of other car companies will not just be confined in making skeptics; rather they will also come up with something surprising.
Who knows, whether their products will be more attractive or not.
Thank you for your well-organise article.
