ASSETS PLEASE!! YOUR HIGHNESS!!
I think that looking at the title you have already understood that I am going to talk about Nepal’s king. Yes, readers you are right! You would remember that I wrote a post titled “No More Royalty for Nepalese Royal Family: Should royal family pay tax or not?”. This post can be called a follow up of that one. The Nepal Parliament has asked King Gyanendra to submit detailed documents of his assets in order to determine the amount of tax that will be paid by him. The most surprising fact is that such an action had never been taken in the last 238 years. I am quoting from the report published in Teluguportal.net:

“The Public Account Committee, has given the cornered king 15 days to furnish details of the property owned by him, his wife Queen Komal, Crown Prince Paras, Crown Princess Himani and their three minor children.”

According to the report published in The Hindu, before taking the throne Gyanendra used to do business. He owned a luxury hotel, cigarette factory and tea plantation.

Is it good news for the Nepalese people? Yes, it is good news, because, it shows the power of people and parliament. For many years, the Nepalese royal family exercised unquestionable authority over the people. They have used the money of the tax payers to fulfill their own needs and achieve their goals. It is definitely a bad practice and the Nepalese people did not accept it. Once again, it has been proved that people are the main source of power in a country, not the king.
