General Motors exporting from India to Sri Lanka soon
General Motors may not have become a big shot in India yet but it is slowly turning India into to an exporting hub for the South Asian market. GM is hopeful that in 2006, it can sell nearly 50,000 cars in the Indian market. GM is increasing its production capacities in India and that is perhaps why GM bosses in India have become serious about exporting in the neighboring South Asian countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. According a report published in Washington Post, GM is going to export cars from India to Sri Lanka within 2006. After GM India can find dealers in Sri Lanka, the company is going to export Optra sedans Aveo hatchback cars in Sri Lanka. GM has already exported some cars to Nepal and Bangladesh from India.

GM's initiative to turn India into an exporting hub will certainly encourage other foreign players in the Indian auto industry to take similar initiatives. Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan- all these countries will witness a huge growth in the automobile industry in the next few years along with India because of positive economic growth and privatization initiatives. So, very smart move by GM.

Thank you for your nice comment about my blog, but you have one of the nicest i have ever seen, i will be back often!

Despite the status of the General Motors in the industry, financial challenges still seems to put pressure on them. Financial challenges brought by recession seem easy to cope, especially on the part of General Motors who have been in the number one spot for the last 80 years in car making industry. It has also been a lifeblood for most Americans who worked for them. I guess the government should help them to get on track in order to prevent job loss among Americans.
