Today, I wrote about IBM's huge investment in India and now I am going to write about Apple not going ahead of its pre planned investment in India. Thus, it is really funny to me that IBM is finding India to be too attractive to resist while Apple is not considering India as a safe bet for its investment. Apple has decided not to go ahead with its original plan of setting up customer support call center in India. I found this discussion in BusinessWeek Online interesting:
"And India's fabled infrastructure headaches and surprisingly robust wage growth have also raised worries about India's undisputed leadership as a business outsourcing Mecca. Entry-level wages have climbed by as much as 13% annually from 2000 to 2004, while salaries for mid-level managers have registered increases of 30% annually during the same period, to a median of $31,131, according to McKinsey and Nasscom, India's software industry association."
Well, I am not sure that whether Steve Jobs has backed down thinking of growing cost in India or not but I feel that Indian government and It industry leaders should take this matter very seriously. Apple's pull out from projects in India will surely get a lot of media publicity and I am curious to see where Apple shifts this project.
