If ProBlogger's Darren Rowse were in South Asia?
Darren Rowse of ProBlogger is one of the most influential and popular bloggers of our time. It will not be exaggerated to say that he is one of the main driving forces behind the enormous popularity of blogging in such a short time. Think of June 2005, did you know about blogging or did you know that blogging is a big industry! At least, I was not aware about it. Like thousands of people, I am a regular visitor of ProBlogger and if you are not aware of yet then just go there and you will be simply amazed to see the amount of useful tips and information there.

One of the things that I enjoy most at ProBlogger is the way Darren analyses a new service or product by talking about both side of the coins (pros and cons). Yesterday, I was thinking that what would happen if Darren was in South Asia- I mean if he were born in a middle class family in South Asia and stayed all his life here.  I also thought about the pros and cons of this matter and here I am stating them.
Pros
·        Darren would become a huge celebrity in any South Asian country. His picture would have remained in the cover pages of different magazines all the year round. Every month, he would have been on one TV channel or another. He would have his own TV show too.
·        Hundreds of students would come to his home or coaching center with the dream to become rich within 3 months or 6 months by blogging. Darren could even let others open Problogger franchise in different cities.
·        Darren would endorse a lot of products (from toothbrush to automobile) for different companies.

Cons
·        Darren would have to work with slow bandwidth. If he could get a bandwidth of 16 KBPS all the time, he would feel himself to be lucky.
·        His relatives and friends would laugh at him at first that he was not trying to become a doctor or engineer but a blogger.
·        If he wanted to get married before becoming successful as a blogger, he would find it too difficult to find a bride.
·        Many of his blog's visitors would be from South Asia and when they click on advertisements he would get a fraction of the money he gets now.
·        Darren would have to work without any Paypal or any form of online transaction (only in India there is Paypal but not in other South Asian countries).
·        Darren would get into trouble to obtain a trade license in the first place. In some countries, he would have to get the trade license in the category of selling computer accessories or making software.

I just wrote this entry for fun. However, after writing this entry, I realized the main reason of not having so many famous bloggers from South Asia. Well, things are changing and hopefully our time is coming too. If you become a famous blogger from South Asia, do not get carried away by the media coverage and sponsorship deals.

If you are a blogger from South Asia please join into this discussion and let me know what are the pros and cons you face for blogging.

In that case he would not have made money through blogging. No?

Not really but he would have to suffer a lot.

Thanks for your comment

I'm one of Darren's avid readers but i don't usually follow his advices in blogging for money that's why I'm not earning anything from the ads in my blogs. I'm not sure why but the thought of following the foot steps of someone successful don't make me feel good about myself.

Hi Razib, I liked the comment you left to Liz at her ten points. Substantial.

The real title should be "Why does Darren Rowse have so many asskissers."

The question is when is Darren going to gave an original thought? Darren writes this outstanding article on some (insert digital camera, cell phone, laptop, printer, etc) and he writes. "This is a copied and pasted article from someone else with a lot of talent and I stole it because I want you to hate my content and click on those ads on the side of my blog."
