Maldives is a small country which has nearly 1,200 very small islands and almost all of the islands are below 2 meter high from the sea level. So, getting fresh water is a major challenge for the country and Tsunami of December 2004 destroyed much of the sources of getting fresh water and also contaminated many other sources. International Federation is helping people of Maldives with rainwater harvesting tanks so that they can store rainwater during the rainy season. This way they will have to depend less on ground water supply.
In this blog, I have always tried to promote environment related issues as I always feel that in South Asia, environment friendly solutions can work and the economy can be benefited from it too. In the case of Maldives, tapping rain water is contributing to the social development at a much cheaper price. The other countries of South Asia can pay attention to the idea of rain water harvesting. Already, Bangladesh has done some progress in implementing this idea. India and Pakistan both should come forward too.

its been a long time...
well i think its a good idea for using rainwater. But still it must be purified first before people can drink it or used it.
