Two rivers are running through the country: Mo Chhu and the Drangme Chhu. Due to monsoon weather, despite being situated in a high mountain region the country has dense forests. These forests are home to many exotic and rare species.
- Various animals like the rare golden monkeys, deer, lion, and leopards are found in the foothills. In the inner Himalaya regions there are bear, boar, and sambar. In the high Himalayan regions there are snow leopards and mask deer.
