Normally, rich countries build hospitals to countries ravaged by natural catastrophe or intense political instability. For example, Palestine, Afghanistan, Maldives (hit by Tsunami in 2004). Building hospital is not considered good will gift rather charity. However, India is making an exception in this regard. Currently, India has gifted Bhutan a hospital and promised to build two more. These hospitals will be as the same standard as that of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS).
Bhutan is a small country situated beside India. In terms, size population, and wealth India is in an elevated position. So it is India who should provide the gift to Bhutan.
According to the report published in chennai online, the two hospitals will be built at Trashigang and Luentse. These two hospitals will be connected with the national and regional referral centers. These regional referral centers will also be developed to maintain the service standard of AIIMS. Last week, a Computerised Tomography (CT) and a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) were installed at the National Regional Referral centers of Bhutan.
Setting up these medical institutions will benefit both parties. Until now, the people of Bhutan had to go to India for better treatment which was very expensive. These medical institutions will save people’s money. Moreover, a good number Bhutanese will be working in these hospitals, so it will become a source of livelihood for many families. For these hospitals, to maintain the standard of the AIIMS, proper training and teaching are very much necessary. So the doctors and researchers of AIIMS can come here and train the doctors, medical students and other medical workers. Last but not the least, the doctors and researchers of both countries can work together and increase their skills and knowledge.
