A few days ago, a fellow blogger from South Asia, wrote me an email in which he requested me to write some entries about how bloggers from South Asia could increase their visibility and become more successful in the blogosphere. He made this request to me as I have written some entries in this blog about the limitations faced by South Asian bloggers. I have decided to write a series of posts about this matter. Of course, my primary goal is to write these posts in a way that they would address the needs of the South Asian bloggers but I am hopeful that bloggers outside of South Asia will find something to think about.
The first problem that South Asian bloggers face is that of visibility. Blogging is yet to take off in large scale in South Asia compared to Europe, North America, Australia and even East Asia (Japan). Traditional media (newspapers and television channels) in South Asia hardly promote any blog article or blogger. Here, hardly any blogger even in their wildest dream can hope to make the media headlines by writing a series of great blog entries.
I feel that social bookmarking websites are the best tool for promoting blog entries. They have taken the bloggers with a level playing field in terms of visibility. If you can write a great entry and if the visitors in some social bookmarking websites like what you have written then you can have thousands of visitors in your blog in just few hours. However, Indian bookmarking websites are relatively new and even if your entry makes into the front page of these sites, you can expect to bring 50-60 hits. So, international social bookmarking websites like Digg, Reddit, Netscape, Shoutwire, Zipped, Stumbleupon are the best places for trying your luck.
