![]() Seeing the title you may wonder what the relationship is between increasing sales of cars and shortage of bitumen. I have to admit that there is no direct relationship but there is some kind of relationship in Nepal. On the one hand, sales of car increased dramatically in the first 8 months of the current fiscal year. In case you did not know the duration of the current fiscal year in Nepal is from July 16, 2005 to July 15, 2006. In fact, in the first 8 months of the current fiscal year, registration of automobiles has increased by 43%. This reflects the healthy growth in sales of automobiles.
Automobiles need good roads to run and for this construction of new roads and repairing of old roads are must. For doing this bitumen is an essential material. Now there is a shortage in supply of bitumen. Nepal imports bitumen from foreign countries and that is why all of a sudden it is not possible increase the availability of bitumen at a short notice. However, time is running out as the fiscal year is coming an end and the money that is unused for any project will go back to the government. So, you can realize the rush among many people to complete the construction of the new roads and repair the old one so that they can make use of the money. Anyway, this is a sad reality in almost every South Asian country. They remain in a relax mood in the first part of the fiscal year and then they want to finish everything in the last few weeks.
