![]() In last few weeks, when I checked news about Sri Lanka, I mainly found about the intensification of civil war between Sri Lankan government and the Tamil Tigers. However, this news I read today, showed me that Sri Lanka is still an attractive place for tourists.
According to Sri Lanka Tourist Board, the number of tourists who visited Sri Lanka during the first 6 months of 2006 has reached to 300,000. Not bad at all! This shows that Sri Lanka has a good potential to attract a lot of tourists if the government invests more seriously in this sector. What is interesting to me is that thousands of people are visiting the island country despite the on going civil war.
Sri Lanka had 500,000 visitors in 2005 and Sri Lanka Tourist Board expects the tourist arrivals this year to be over 600,000. Sri Lanka was one of the countries to be worst hit during Tsunami (December, 2004) and that is why I am happy that Sri Lanka is doing so well in tourism.
