A Company could not Find People for 80 Well Paid Simple Jobs!!!
Have you ever heard that a company gave advertisements for 80 well paid jobs and then failed to get the employees? This is unimaginable in this age as people are dying to get a job. In third world countries, often more than one hundred candidates apply for just one job. So, you can imagine my shock when I found this news item that a company offered 80 jobs and could not find enough people to work. And the job is simple- medical transcription.

This weird thing has happened in Bhutan. Bhutanese government is trying to develop the Information Technology and it has taken some measures to encourage the investors in this sector. So, 6 entrepreneurs joined hands to set up a private firm called Bhutan Business Solutions. Their main goal was to enter into the field of outsourcing and they targeted medical transcription. I guess that they got the assurance of getting some works and that is why they called for recruiting 80 workers. They planned that these 80 workers would receive intensive training for 6 months by professionals in this field of India. So far so good. I must say that their plan was good. 500 candidate applied and they tested the candidates with 'essay writing, grammar, comprehension, listening skills and an oral interview.' However, they found only 39 candidates to be satisfactory enough. So, you can understand the dismay of the partners of this private firm.

The candidates alleged that the test was too tough. The owner of this firm replied that to get outsourcing works they have to maintain tough standards. This whole story has made me feel sorry for the educated people in South Asia. In South Asia, higher education is still much cheaper as it is highly subsidized by the governments. They do not have too much job opportunities and outsourcing is the latest craze in this part of the world. To get outsourcing jobs you need to have world class standard. The 500 candidates who applied for the 80 jobs in Bhutan had a first hand experience about this reality.

Our company has been looking for IT programmers for almost 7 months now. We advertise weekly in the most circulated newspapers and still have not found suitable employees. The problem is the education level is very low. The ones that do end up learning something get immigration to a western country and leave.

sad indeed.
