![]() If you are a Hindi movie lover like me then the title would remind you of a Hindi movie based on racism in West. Now, you would assume that I am going to talk about racism; WRONG ANSWER!! Racism is not my subject. According to the new data released by US Census Bureau, every eighth person in USA is from Asian origin which includes India, China and the Philippines.
According to the report published in Daily India.com, between 2000 and 2005, more than 1.2 million immigrants of Asian origin came to USA. Last year, the immigrant population accounted for 12.4 percent of the total population of US.
The report published in Telugu Portal says that there are about two-million- strong Indian community in USA which is less than one percent of the total population of US. However, they are the most educated and well-off among all the immigrant communities.
Still not happy? Before writing this article, I was browsing Google. I used the movie title as key word and found few websites showing many interesting facts about India. Let me give you some of them:
Four out of 10 Silicon Valley startups are run by Indians.
Indians account for 45% of H1-B visas issued by the US every year.
One of the co-founders of Sun Microsystems, Vinod Khosla, is an Indian.
Creator of Pentium chip, Vinod Dahm, is an Indian.
The founder and creator of Hotmail, Sabeer Bhatia, is an Indian.
The president of AT & T-Bell Labs is Arun Netravalli, an Indian.
The man responsible to solve the problems of Windows 2000 is Sanjay
Tejwrika, the Microsoft Testing Director.
There are 3.22 million Indians in the US.
Indians are the richest immigrant class in the US, with nearly 200,000 millionaires.
38% of doctors in USA are Indians.
12% scientists in USA are Indians.
36% of NASA scientists are Indians.
34% of Microsoft employees are Indians.
28% of IBM employees are Indians.
17% of INTEL scientists are Indians.
13% of XEROX employees are Indians.
Many of these facts are old but my main intention behind presenting them is to give the readers an idea about the growing presence of Indians in USA. By this time, some of the numbers would have grown higher! These facts show that Indian Americans, by dint of their skill and education, will occupy many important positions in USA in near future. This will not only elevate the image of India but also yield many positive changes for Indian economy.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but a lot of those "facts" you listed are just links to other "proud to be Indian" blogs... your case would be a lot stronger if you had proper sources.
As I noted above I think Indian MDs are vital to US health care, however the 38% figure seems inflated. To wit:
From: http://www.workingimmigrants.com/2006/03/immigration_of_medical_doctors.html
"Some 22% of MDs in practice in the United States in 2004 were non-Americans trained in foreign medical schools, according to an article published October, 2005 in the New England Journal of Medicine. The total number of doctors in practice was 836,000. Of these 183,000 were non-Americans trained abroad. Six countries supplied 49% of these 183,000 (in descending order): India, Philippines, Pakistan, Canada, China, and the foreign Soviet Union. In 2004 40,888 India trained doctors were in practice in the United States. That made up 5% of all practicing MDs and 22% of all non-American foreign trained doctors."
"Heck, sticks and stones..."
Thanks for dropping by Razib and carry on the good fight.
Cheers!

Speaking as an American who travels frequently to smaller towns and cities in my country I can observe two things.
1. If it wasn't for the presence of MD's of Indian origin the US health care system would probably collapse. (Just hope this immigration of MD's to the US isn't creating a crisis in India.)
2. Indian's have massively penetrated the hotel industry in smaller markets. I just wish some would follow the example of our Chinese immigrants and open Indian restaurants, you can find a Chinese restaurant in almost any American city but Indian cuisine is almost unheard of outside of the largest cities.
