Flood is a major catastrophe in all the South Asian countries. During the time of monsoon rain, these countries become the victim of flood. Nepal is a small country situated on the southern side of the great Himalayas. The country is situated at a high altitude (70 to 8850 meters high from sea level). During the monsoon reason (from June to September), there is heavy rain around the country.
This year, the western region of Nepal is badly hit by the monsoon rain. According to the report published in Ohmynews.com, the rain started from Friday night. Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Nawalparasi, and Surkhet of the western Terai region were badly affected by flood. The heavy rain caused flood and landslides which destroyed crops and houses and swept away many people. The report published in The Hindu.com says that three people died and sixty three people were missing due to the landslide in western Nepal. Eleven people in Belihawa area could not get any help and 350 people of Piprahawa, Khadanja kadaipuruwa area were rescued. Local forces and police are working to save the people in flood affected areas. In addition, Indian forces are helping the Nepalese forces in border areas.
Such floods and landslides are not happening for the first time. The flood and landslide happened in July, 1993 was the worst in the history of Nepal. The major problem for Nepal is that along with flood landslide also occurs which shuts down the highways. As a result, people can not get necessary help in time. This is a big problem and the only resistance against this is building good number of relief centers and devise a good pre-catastrophe and post-catastrophe plan that would ensure the safety of people and resources.

flood is always a terrible situation. i remember returning to Bangladesh in 2004 just when the waters were about to subside; it was really heartbreaking to fly over the inundated fields.
this year, however, Bangladeshi's are praying for rain... despite all modernization, man is still at the mercy of nature...
