![]() Pakistan government has decided to levy tax on tickets that will be issued for international flights from Pakistan. The amount of this tax will be 15% of the total cost of the ticket. I am quoting from the report published in Peninsula Quatar:
“The Central Board of Revenue has notified special procedures for the collection of federal excise duty (FED) on travel tickets by air of passengers embarking on international journey from Pakistan. The special procedures were notified through a FED notification SRO780 by amending the federal excise rules.”
From now, all the air craft operators have to register at the Central Board of Revenue. Air craft operators with two or more branches, either have to obtain a single registration for all the branches or can have separate registration for each of the branch office. For single registration, the Head office has to pay all the charges. Passengers who fly inside Pakistan or fly out side from Pakistan will be subjected to pay the tax. Only Haj passengers, transit passengers, supernumerary crew, diplomats and passengers whose tickets were issued outside of Pakistan will not have to pay this tax.
Well, this is not a good idea. Traveling by plane is still expensive for most people in Pakistan. This will only make flying more difficult for the middle class people. Secondly, in this region, people still cannot travel by bus or by train from one country to another. So, it will hurt every one.

Taxes, they were for building nations right. If its for more improvements on their country, why not. Only, why 15%? It's a little bit over the top. Can't they somehow lower it to, at least, 10%?
