Tea is Better than Water for Health?
Is it really possible? Well, I always knew that tea was better than coffee for health. In fact, many people in Asia believe that drinking tea can help you to fight with cancer. And now European researchers are saying that tea can actually bring better result for health than even water! If I find this news in any other place, I would not give that much importance but I saw this headline in BBC News:

I am quoting from that report:
Drinking three or more cups of tea a day is as good for you as drinking plenty of water and may even have extra health benefits, say researchers.

The work in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition dispels the common belief that tea dehydrates.

Tea not only rehydrates as well as water does, but it can also protect against heart disease and some cancers, UK nutritionists found.

Experts believe flavonoids are the key ingredient in tea that promote health."

I am very happy for this news. Among the major producers of tea we have three South Asian countries- Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. In fact, until 20 years ago, tea was among the top contributors to the export earning in Bangladesh. I just wish that this good news is echoed in other news sources too and thus awareness gets created among all the people in the world about the health benefits of drinking tea. This will immensely benefit the tea producing countries. Most of all, thousands of workers in working in tea gardens in South Asia will have better wages if the demand of tea increases in the international market.
In this report of BBC I saw that tea can fight against heart attack too:
Public health nutritionist Dr Carrie Ruxton, and colleagues at Kings College London, looked at published studies on the health effects of tea consumption.

They found clear evidence that drinking three to four cups of tea a day can cut the chances of having a heart attack."

I hope more people will start to drink tea because of this matter only. So, tea can help our body in 3 ways:
1. Tea can help us to fight with heart attack
2. Tea is Rehydrating
3. Tea can help us to fight against cancer

Of course, tea makes us fresh and gives us energy to work. I guess, I stop writing this entry now and go to make 3 cups of tea as I did not drink tea at all today.
What about you?

Is Iced tea also as benificial as its hot counterpart? I drink iced tea everytime I have lunch.

Funny how the article doesn't mention any difference between green and black tea -- I wonder if both are 'healthier' than water.

I'm a huge tea drinker, though I have one more to go today to make my 3...

I'm glad to hear this as I am an avid tea drinker. Cheers!

Tea is naturally high in fluoride, however, at least the black teas. This can lead to buildup of calcium leading to kidney stones in some people. Due to the popularity of "sweet (iced) tea" in the south of the US there is a higher prevelance of kidney stones.

I saw in China the tea ceremony is being re-taught to girls after being banned for so many years, as part of the preparation for the Olympic games. Not only is it refreshing, but diplomatic too.

I'm sure Sri Lankans are happy to read this. :)

great news for us tea drinkers!
since i've joined the corporate world, i'm finding my consumption of tea increasing, and it's good to know that that's not such a bad thing.
i'll have to do some more research on the health benefits of tea, and maybe even make a post about this on my blog.
it's great to see a blog by bangladeshis doing so well, i hope my new blog gets some readers soon...

I‘ve learnt from Lao Tzu. Today, I find worldly answers looking through God’s eyes and not from man’s logic and lab equipment.

I see “tap water”, “bottled water” and especially “fizzy drinks”, are man’s creation, missing essential “Godly essences” for the healthy survival of man and animals.

Natural drinking water should be from lakes and streams that have been soaked with decomposing plant leaves, branches and roots, and the occasional dead animal. There, lays in this water, very important agents that keep germs and substances in balance for healthy living.

Civilised people of course, shun drinking from lakes and streams and are doing themselves a great disservice … thus coming up with deficient defences again diseases such as cancers.

But, the Chinese knew for centuries that boiled hot clean water soaked with fermented tea leaves, ginseng roots, certain mushrooms, flower petals and barks of trees, is at least near semblance to nature’s water. They don’t drink pure water, only tea and such likes, and for long before the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition report about the benefits of tea, and that tea is better than water.

its rally a intersting news

It is really interesting and good news for us who really like to drink tea. I knew that water is good for health, whereas tea is bad for health especially who takes three to four cups of tea a day. I like tea. When I work that time I like to take tea. I take tea at breakfast time and on evening. Sometimes I drink tea at the noon. After taking a cup of tea I feel fresh and it helps to remove my tiredness. The tea without milk is really good for our health but I like tea with milk. Black tea is better than milk tea. Some times I also take black tea. I am happy that there is no side effect of taking tea more than one cups. Thanks for writing about a topic which is related to our health.
