Unemployment is a major problem for many countries in the world. Well, even, Bhutanese people did not have to worry too much about it as the country had traditional agro based economic system. However, unemployment among the young people is gradually turning into a serious problem for Bhutan. I just read an interesting report titled Job vacancy available? In this report, Bishal Rai wrote:
“The ‘out of school’ youth attending a four-day orientation in the capital have few things in common; they have stopped education, are living with relatives in Thimphu, and are desperately searching for jobs.
And they had come to attend the programme driven only with the hope of finding an opening in their quest for employment, despite having applied and sat for numerous interviews without success.
Sonam Choden had, in the past one year, sat for more than five interviews. Those in the list include teaching, health, call centres etc.
“My only regret is I did not apply to become a construction worker because now I am not getting even that job,” she told Kuensel.”
Not a rosy picture at all! Bhutan needs to diversify its economy to create more job opportunities. As the number of educated people is increasing in the country, unemployment among educated people will become a major problem very soon. Bhutanese government puts a lot of emphasis on increasing the happiness of people. As far as I am concerned, nothing can make people unhappier than not having a job.
Don’t you agree with me? Then leave your job and test it.
