Brazil, China, Russia and India- these four countries are considered to be the economic powers of tomorrow. These countries are sometimes labeled together as BRIC countries. Of these four countries, India has the lowest per capita Gross National Income (GNI). However, in Global Competitiveness Report 2006-2007, India has better rankings than Brazil, China and Russia. The rankings of the four countries are:
India: 43
China: 54
Russian Federation: 62
Brazil: 66
India’s main strength seems to lie in the effort of its private sector. Some people think that India should follow the model of China in terms of economic development. However, this report challenges this notion.
Well the rankings of other South Asian countries are disappointing:
Sri Lanka: 79
Pakistan: 91
Bangladesh: 99
Nepal: 110
South Asian countries have to give more effort to improve their rankings.
