![]() In the recently published Global Competitiveness Survey by the World Economic Forum, Nepal was ranked in the 110th position in a list of 125 countries. It is needless to explain that this rank is too poor for any country. Nepal News wrote:
“The ranking is based on nine broad pillars or parameters such as infrastructure, health/education, institutions, technologies etc," said Dr. Ramesh Chitracar, executive director of Center for Economic Development and Administration (CEDA). The center was the partner institute of WEF for Nepal. It conducted the executive opinion survey from among chief executives of around 80 major companies based on a standardized questionnaire, which was analyzed by the Switzerland-based WEF to calculate Nepal's overall ranking.”
I feel that massive corruption of the previous regime of King Gyanendra has contributed a lot in the miserable condition of Nepalese economy. King Gyanendra and his cronies had absolute monopoly on business in Nepal for the last few years. Political violence and civil war made the matter only worse. Now, Nepal has some political stability and I hope that Nepal’s ranking will improve in a few years in Global Competitiveness Survey.
