Pakistani economy may be growing fast but the reality is that millions of people are still poor and unemployed in the country. So, I feel very happy that Pakistani government has taken a special scheme to generate employment among poor people. Under the project, the government will distribute loan of nearly Rs. 20 billion. To give you a clear idea about the project, I am quoting from a report of Pakistan Times:
“The 'Rozgar Pakistan' scheme is a public-private venture of the government under which about 2.5 million unemployed individuals, especially at the grassroots level, will be targeted.
The NBP has set a maximum limit of Rs. 200,000 for an individual to be repaid in upto five years time period.
The scheme covers fixed and mobile utility stores, transport (motorcycle rickshaws), public call office (PCO) and tele-centers.”
Well, I have just one concern. I really wish that the money reaches the poor people and those who need it. Often we have seen in the past in many parts of South Asia that these kinds of projects do not reach to the needy people. Instead, politicians, bankers and bureaucrats build an unholy alliance and distribute the money to their cronies. Let’s hope for the best.
