PUNE: THE OXFORD OF EAST

Situated in Maharashtra, Pune is the second largest city of Maharashtra and the second largest city of India. Home to 4.5 million people, Pune’s historical background can be traced back to 8th century A.D.  

Pune is famous for its educational institutions. Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru referred Pune as “The Oxford of East”. Due to comfortable weather of the city students from all over India and foreign countries come to study in India.Some of the famous educational institutions are:

Pune’s automotive industry is growing at a very rapid pace. Bajaj auto, one of the largest two wheeler manufacturers, and Tata motors is situated in Pune. The size of Pune’s automotive industry is estimated to $3 billion. Bharat Forge Limited, the second largest forging companies of the world, is also situated in Pune. Many foreign companies like Daimler Chrysler have their  plants in Pune.  

Many engineering firms are situated in Pune. These firms include both domestic and foreign. Some of them are:  Alfa Laval, Sandvik Asia, KSB Pumps etc.

Plants of the world famous home appliance producers, LG and Whirlpool are situated in Pune. Coca Cola, the world famous soft drink has its manufacturing plant in this city.

In the field of IT, Pune is becoming an important player. With offices of famous outsourcing firms like Convergys, WNS, Progeon, EXL, Mphasis situated in the city, Pune is becoming one of the best destinations for business process outsourcing.

The city also has few IT parks that house many domestic and international software companies.

The transport system of Pune is very developed. By rail and road the city is connected to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Chennai. It has an international airport and thrice a week has flights to Singapore and Dubai. The city has two railway stations: Pune Junction and Shivajinagar Station.
