Nepal is a small country and the cities of Nepal do not ideally fit into the features of cities in that sense. Still, these small cities have their own beauty. Today, I am going to talk about another Nepalese city, Birganj.
Home to 300,000 people, Birganj is situated near the northern Indian border of Raxaul. From economic point of view, this city is very important. Goods from Kolkata and Patna go inside Nepal from this point. Aside from this local people and tourists go through here.
Birganj is situated in the Terai region. This region covers the southern portion of Nepal, northern part of West Bengal. This entire region is covered by grass lands, savanna, and forest.
Birgunj is a small city used a stop over point by businessmen and pilgrims. Birgunj has many things to offer to the tourists. Here the people are multi lingual (Nepali, Mathili, Newari, Hindi) and multi ethnic.
Some of the major tourist sites of Birgunj are: the Shankar Acharya gate, Buddha Chaitya, Durga Temple, Ghadiharwa Pokhari, clock tower, city hall, and goddess Gadi Mai temple.
Hotels and Restaurants are quite cheap in Birgunj. The best hotel in Birgunj costs $50 per night. The rooms are air conditioned.
By railway, Birgunj is connected to many Indian cities. If you are visiting India, then going to Nepal from there is very easy. The Simara Airport has flights to Kathmandu. By road, this city is also well connected with the other major Nepalese cities.
