Data Theft: ACME Tele Power Decides to leave India
Last week, the documentary of UK’s Channel 4 (The Data Theft Scandal) created huge media attention. Well, that time, some Indian IT leaders stated that India was safe and it was a conspiracy against Indian IT industry carried out by some vested quarters. I wonder what NASSCOM leaders would say now about the ACME Tele Power incident. This company has suffered data theft and it is going to leave India.

After registering a case against an employee who had allegedly stolen data, the Gurgaon-based IT firm Acme Telepower Management waited for something to happen. A week later they have decided to stop operating out of India and move to Australia.
It seems like this is the beginning of a domino effect, even as India's antiquated police force tries to deal with new age crime like data theft.
Acme Telepower is claiming a national loss of Rs 750 crore. They are saying it's all because an ex-employee named Sachidanand Patnaik who allegedly stole research and handed it over to his new employer - a competitor in the power industry solutions space.”

Already, this incident has got huge media attention and I am sure that it will do more damage to the Indian outsourcing industry than Channel 4 documentary. Indian government needs to arrange special training for its police force about data theft. This incident should work as an alarming bell to Indian government and NASSCOM. Data theft happens in US or UK too and that is why it happens in India too- this kind of logic would not satisfy any consumer or company.

While I feel for certain that there are certain vested interests who maynot be very happy seeing India develop into an economic super power (Pakistan, Bangladesh because of Historical conflicts ), I also do feel that the country has some serious drawbacks, primarily its infrastructure which is the greatest bottleneck.

Lets concentrate on more serious IT issues (penetration on IT within the general populace for example) rather than focus on such mundane topics. Shall we ?????
